Technical Director for Live Productions

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for supporting and executing technical aspects of switcher-based live productions within the ballpark footprint for Astros games and Special Events. The Technical Director will partner with all departments in the organization to execute and technical direct a run-of-show by operating the switcher for games, promotions, events, and Special Events with live production needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute technical directing aspects of game entertainment and special event productions.
  • Prepare and edit in-game elements consistent with department philosophy, company values, vision, and mission.
  • Assist with production crew member time approval and tracking all in-house staff payroll processing through UltiPro.
  • Ensure that all video content is accurately loaded for sponsorship and marketing departments.
  • Partner with internal and external clients to fulfill game content distribution and organization.
  • Work all Astros home games and Special Events as technical director.
  • Support and work closely with internal teams and any additional events.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with general Control Room organization and System Updates.

Requirements:
  • Degree in Production, Cinematography, Communications, or relevant work experience.
  • 2-3 years' experience in control room/technical directing setting.
  • Previous experience in non-linear video editing.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expert knowledge of software and hardware packages involving Ross Xpression, Ross Tessera, and Ross Dashboard.
  • Knowledge of Control Room system functionality (ROSS Acuity and Carbonite switcher, audio setup, data storage, etc.).
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with other departments and tenured production staff.
  • Must be organized, flexible, and able to work in a live-production and fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Multi-ME (4) Ross Acuity Switcher.
  • Experience with ScorePad Plays Now, Pitches Now.
  • 4-5 years' experience in control room/technical director setting.

Work Environment:
Position will work in an office and stadium environment. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. Must be able to work in all types of outdoor weather conditions and within a stadium environment.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, and hear.
  • The vision requirement includes close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Nature of position requires physical mobility and the ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must have the ability to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed.

Travel:
Travel is not expected in this role.
