Job Title: Staff Attorney

Are you a legal professional looking to make a meaningful impact in the field of workers' compensation law? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Attorney to join our team at the State of Kansas.

Job Summary:

The Staff Attorney will be responsible for conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and assisting in the development of policies and procedures related to workers' compensation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of workers' compensation laws and regulations, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research on workers' compensation laws, regulations, and precedents.
  • Assist in drafting legal documents, including briefs, memoranda, and opinions.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to workers' compensation.
  • Provide support to the Director and Assistant Director in responding to public and legislative requests.
  • Assist in the evaluation of applications for self-insurance and the development of security requirements for employers.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas.
  • Experience with state government and/or workers' compensation law is a plus.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with electronic filing systems and CLE courses.
