About the Job:

The Behavioral Health Associate I plays a vital role in the multidisciplinary treatment team, working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. This position is responsible for monitoring and reporting patient behaviors, providing continuous patient care, and assisting in patient data collection and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the wellbeing of patients and provide a safe, positive, supportive, and structured environment.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision is conducted at intervals in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines.
  • Check patients for contraband and manage patient valuables and belongings.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
  • Engage with patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups covering topics such as social skills, coping skills, anger management, and independent living skills.
  • Take and record vital signs properly and communicate significant changes in patient condition to the charge nurse.
  • Chart in patient records timely, accurately, and appropriately.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques to help manage patient emotions, behavior, and participation in treatment, and assist with seclusion and restraints when necessary.
  • Assist with unit cleaning, organization of new admits charts, discharge process, filing, and initiate patient/employee incident reports.
  • Provide transfer or transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff members as required.
  • Provide verbal report/briefing to the oncoming shift.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred.
