About the Job

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a behavioral health setting. This includes assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of patients, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Assess patient status on an ongoing basis and document pertinent information.
  • Ensure nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and initial treatment plans are completed upon admission.
  • Accurately administer medications per ordered note and document accurate count of controlled substances.
  • Notify physicians of significant changes in patient status, such as difficulties with detox or medical emergencies.
  • Supervise self-administration of medications using safety initiatives and document effects of scheduled and PRN medications.
  • Maintain accountability of administration, recording, control, and security of medications, including narcotics.
  • Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed.
  • Confer regularly with the treatment team regarding patient care and participate in unit activities, such as therapy groups and family meetings.
  • Provide education and explanation to patients, families, and coworkers regarding medication usage, patient rights, and other topics necessary for optimal patient care.
  • Monitor patient acuity, census, and staffing needs, and make arrangements for coverage as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
  • One or more years of nursing experience within the clinical area of service provided by the facility, preferably in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery.
  • Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
  • Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.
  • CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required.
