Job Description

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Interim HealthCare - Plantation FL, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results. Your primary responsibility will be to perform testing procedures on patient blood, body fluid, and tissue samples according to established standards of pathology practice and the policies of the contracting employer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare specimens for a wide range of laboratory studies, including common and specialized tests.
  • Recognize test inconsistencies and take appropriate action to retest and/or report results according to the policies of the contracting employer.
  • Run quality-control tests as per the contracting employer's policy and procedure.
  • Communicate critical test results to physicians and/or nurses in accordance with the policies of the contracting employer.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including cleaning, calibrating, and repairing, and complete all required paperwork.
  • Handle specimens from patients with various diagnoses, conditions, and diseases.
  • Assist the Pathologist with complex and invasive laboratory procedures as assigned and qualified.
  • Read and interpret policy and procedure manuals, written physician's orders, equipment operating instructions, and safety manuals.
  • Interpret technical data, including lab and diagnostic test results.
  • Apply basic math to job situations, such as combining mixtures and machine settings.
  • Establish effective relationships with physicians, coworkers, and superiors.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Respond to emergency/disaster situations according to the policies and procedures of the contracting employer.
  • Operate equipment and devices according to the manufacturer's operating instructions and the contracting employer's policies and procedures.
  • Provide clear and legible written or electronic documentation of all test results.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with the contracting employer's policies and procedures.
  • May supervise other laboratory personnel as assigned and qualified through task assignments, direction, and evaluation of work completed.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the contracting employer, who is responsible for monitoring work in progress and reevaluating the status of assigned work at the end of the shift/assignment.
  • Complete training for new assignments/tasks and any subsequent competency validation per the direction and procedures of the contracting employer.
  • Complete other assignments as requested and assigned.
  • May have access to personal health information (PHI) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Technology program that is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA); or training, education, and experience deemed appropriate by the contracting employer.
  • Additional certifications as required by the contracting employer.
  • Licensure as defined by state regulation or law and requirement of the contracting employer.
  • Experience as defined by the contracting employer.

  • Effectively read and communicate in the English language.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, including managing stress appropriately, making decisions under pressure, and handling multiple priorities.
  • Ability to maintain and demonstrate professional behavior.
  • Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

  • Work is performed in clinics, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, or other occupational settings.
  • Work environment involves frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and/or potentially infectious or hazardous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret technical instructions, visually and auditorially observe and assess the patient.
  • Requires normal, correctable vision and hearing and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to spend varying amounts of time sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Sufficient endurance to perform the required physical and mental tasks over long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity (eye-hand coordination) and fine motor function necessary to operate equipment.
  • Ability to frequently work in areas that are confined and/or crowded.
  • Physical activity is medium and may require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
