About the Department:

The National Security Institute (NSI) at the Commonwealth of Virginia focuses on enhancing national security and global leadership by educating future leaders and promoting actionable solutions grounded in practical experience. NSI serves as a hub for research, education, and policy development, incorporating a realistic evaluation of the threats facing the nation and recognizing the legal and practical challenges encountered by U.S. intelligence, defense, law enforcement, homeland security, and cybersecurity sectors. The faculty and experts at NSI bring extensive experience in addressing national security issues across all branches of government.

About the Position:

The National Security Policy Coordinator will oversee the effective planning and coordination of NSI's policy initiatives, events, publications, and related activities. This role offers the chance to collaborate with NSI's team of experts in national security, foreign policy, and technology, while also engaging with Congressional and Executive branch representatives and partnering with leading organizations in the private and nonprofit sectors.

Responsibilities:

Overseeing administrative functions related to policy development, including financial management and record-keeping; Developing and coordinating NSI's policy initiatives, identifying key priorities and strategies for engagement, and organizing events and programs; Planning and managing NSI events and related activities, including on-site logistics; Collaborating with NSI leadership and staff, as well as media, the public, and government officials to facilitate activities; Assisting in research, writing, and publication of NSI's research and advocacy documents; Supporting efforts related to NSI's website, communications, and social media outreach; Managing event registrations and preparing materials for events; assisting with communication strategies and on-site event execution; Supporting NSI's various programs; Assisting the NSI team in all facets of its operations; Engaging with Congressional and Executive branch officials to further NSI's policy objectives; and Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Professional experience in policy development and/or national security and foreign policy; Exceptional organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently; Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive; Ability to engage with individuals at all levels, including senior legal officials and academics, in a professional manner across various settings; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and strong database management skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant field; and Experience in public policy is advantageous.
