SCOPE:


Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients while adhering to national and organizational standards and guidelines for specialty regulations.

Demonstrates understanding of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-specific differences in the patient population, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to address the assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities

*Refer to supplementary language regarding Specialty Specific Requirements (e.g., transplant, infusion) as applicable.

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care in accordance with established standards and practices. Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding their condition and medical history.

Collect and document nursing assessments and interventions.


Review and report the results of health status assessments and physical examinations, relevant laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients to the provider.

Assess patient and family needs and provide education and other instructional support.

Offer psychosocial support to patients and families.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Administer all medications and blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage, route, time, and technique.

Ensure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administering therapies where applicable.

Facilitate dose modifications by assessing patients, reviewing lab results, consulting protocols or treatment plans, calculating doses, and discussing dosage modifications, issues, and symptom management with the physician.

Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.

Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments provided.

Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.

Maintain a clean work environment and restock supplies as needed.

Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and any other materials potentially infected with blood-borne pathogens.

Adhere to all disinfection protocols.

Maintain equipment according to quality control standards.


Facilitate clinical operations and patient care by managing patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy and documenting the information in the patient chart.

Assist physicians with examinations and maintain efficient patient flow in and out of exam rooms.

Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments for patients.

Triaging patient phone calls as needed and documenting relevant information in the patient's chart.

As necessary, facilitate communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, coordinating services related to patient care.

Assist patients in locating available community resources.

Other duties as assigned.

Inter-professional collaboration includes assisting and collaborating with clinical research.

Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.

Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.

Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing educational opportunities.


Qualifications:


Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
High School Diploma

Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education.

RN state license and current registration with the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred 1 year in Oncology

BSN Preferred

Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Business Experience

New Grad with years' experience

Transplant RN

Position Summary:

Provides nursing care from initial patient contact through high-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue to follow-up care post stem cell rescue.


Key Responsibilities (Prepares and administers therapies under the direction): Manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to the intense high-dose therapy, stem cell rescue, and rehabilitation following the rescue in collaboration with the transplant physician and/or supervisor.


Key Responsibilities (Facilitates clinical operations and patient care): Reports data to the company for Transplant related registries and appropriate bodies, International Autologous and Blood and Marrow Transplant Registries.

Incorporates company Transplant Network recommendations into clinical practice as assigned.

Minimum Job

Qualifications:

In the bone marrow or hematopoietic stem cell transplant setting

Infusion RN

Key Responsibilities (Prepares and administers therapies under the direction):


Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home.

Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.
