Job Summary

The Bus Monitor is a vital member of our team at Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children on our buses. This role requires a high level of energy, patience, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work effectively with children of all ages and backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor children on the bus at all times, ensuring their safety and adherence to bus rules.
  • Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus, and provide support as needed.
  • Intervene appropriately in situations where children are exhibiting disruptive behavior, and work to de-escalate conflicts.
  • Participate in maintaining a clean and organized bus environment, and assist with daily tasks such as cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on their child's bus experience.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a smooth and efficient bus operation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or experience in a related field preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with children of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, and to stand for long periods of time.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal communication skills in both languages).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent travel to various locations, including schools and community centers. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances as needed.

The employee must also be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, and to stand for long periods of time. The work environment is professional and respectful, with a focus on providing excellent customer service to our clients and their families.
