Job Summary:

The Bus Monitor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children on the bus. This position requires a high level of supervision and attention to detail to guarantee that children are seated and secure at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and monitor children on the bus to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Keep track of emergency lists and daily checklists for children on the bus.
  • Participate in maintaining a clean and organized bus environment.
  • Become familiar with the Greater Lawrence area streets and program bus routes.
  • Communicate with parents and Transportation Supervisor regarding any changes or updates.
  • Report any incidents or issues to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Assist with classroom or parent activities as needed.
  • Support school readiness activities and parent engagement.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school education and be at least 18 years old.
  • Knowledge and understanding of young children's needs and development.
  • Ability to manage a large group of small children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Understanding of transportation safety guidelines and evacuation procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal communication skills).
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and meet the needs of people from different backgrounds.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.
  • Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Must show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
