Job Objectives:


  • To efficiently execute the local school Child Nutrition Program (CNP).
  • To deliver wholesome, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, visitors, and community members associated with Baldwin County Schools.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining kitchen equipment essential for job responsibilities.
  • Capability to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit effective interpersonal skills.
  • Adherence to Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations.
  • Competence in utilizing technology as required for job responsibilities.
  • Commitment to completing annual continuing education training as mandated by the USDA.
  • Physical strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively.
  • Ability to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Capacity to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Dependability and regular attendance.
  • Any alternative qualifications as required by the Board.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


  • Assists in the preparation and service of food according to the daily menu and supervisor's/manager's instructions.
  • Conducts food storage, inventory control, equipment cleaning, assembly and disassembly, and related serving and sanitation tasks as assigned.
  • Operates food service equipment following established procedures.
  • Participates in job rotation or assists in any CNP activities as assigned, including cashier, server, backup, dish machine operator, food preparation, and cleanup of kitchen, dining area, storage areas, or work area.
  • Maintains professional attire and hygiene suitable for food service work (uniform, hair net/hat, closed-toe shoes with non-skid soles, etc.).
  • Observes proper safety precautions in the kitchen and other work areas.
  • Collaborates with other school system staff members to uphold high standards in the child nutrition program.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions and communicates effectively with others (CNP staff, vendors, school staff, students, parents, community members).
  • Engages in and promotes in-service training, conferences, and continuing educational programs for self-improvement and for other personnel.
  • Demonstrates professional growth and adheres to professional ethics and effective work habits.
  • Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Exhibits initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system.
  • Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
  • Utilizes effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by principal and/or supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment:
Nine-month position (185-day) position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
