Mission of the Unit

The Children's Hospital of Richmond, part of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, is dedicated to evolving the GI Pediatrics Division into a premier academic entity focused on outstanding clinical care, education, and comprehensive research across clinical, translational, and fundamental domains.

Core Purpose of the Role

VCU Medical Center and Children's Hospital have collaboratively established Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, a comprehensive pediatric facility providing a wide array of services, research initiatives, and educational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching: Engage in educational duties within the pediatric GI/Psychology sector. The faculty member will mentor and guide Residents and Chief Residents in the GI/Psychology field.

Scholarship: Involvement in scholarly activities is encouraged, including program assessments, research contributions, publications, presentations at national conferences, and participation in relevant academic organizations.

Service: Participate in departmental or School of Medicine committees as needed, along with professional contributions through journal reviews and conference presentations.

Clinical: Function as a Psychologist within the Child and Adolescent Psychology Division of Psychiatry and in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Responsibilities may encompass individual assessments, therapy sessions, and family or group therapy.

Required Qualifications
PhD or PsyD in Clinical Counseling from an APA-accredited doctoral program Licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia Experience in treating patients aged birth to 21 with gastrointestinal disorders, particularly in pediatric motility and functional GI issues Background in educating house-staff, medical students, and others Proven experience in promoting a diverse environment among faculty, staff, and students, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU Preferred Qualifications
Sub-specialty board certification or additional graduate degree Experience in non-pharmacological approaches to managing GI disorders is advantageous. Research experience, program evaluation, and teaching/supervision experience are also preferred. Involvement in advocacy at local, state, and national levels Application Process:
