Role Summary

SPUR is on the lookout for a strategic and proactive Director of Institutional Giving to strengthen our corporate and foundation fundraising initiatives. This pivotal leadership role within SPUR's development team is tasked with generating approximately $3M in revenue through corporate memberships, event sponsorships, and special grants. The director will spearhead strategic initiatives, nurture long-term partnerships, design and manage business membership campaigns, oversee cultivation and stewardship events, and enhance essential fundraising systems for SPUR's business membership programs. The focus will be on a portfolio of donors that includes Board Member companies and major corporate accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with a diverse portfolio of business members and prospects.
  • Collaborate with SPUR's Board and City Advisory Boards to engage them in corporate fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the stewardship, renewal, and upgrading of existing business members.
  • Attract new business members to the organization.
  • Secure corporate sponsorships for major events, including annual gatherings and public programs.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for special grants from companies aligned with SPUR's objectives.
  • Grow and engage donors through Corporate Affinity Groups, such as the SPUR Urban Infrastructure Council.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of SPUR's policy and advocacy initiatives.

Strategic Development

  • In collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), formulate a long-term strategy for expanding SPUR's corporate donor base.
  • Set annual revenue targets for business memberships and signature event sponsorships in partnership with the CDO.
  • Work with the Engagement team to develop content for business-related events.
  • Coordinate with the Engagement team and Affinity Group leaders to plan programming.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and improvement to enhance SPUR's fundraising effectiveness.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise the Corporate Relations Manager to ensure alignment with SPUR's business development strategy.
  • Collaborate with SPUR's Board, Senior Leadership, and Policy Staff to cultivate and steward corporate and foundation donors.
  • Work strategically with other development staff to align strategies and processes.
  • Oversee the management of corporate donor stewardship processes, ensuring accurate tracking in the CRM database.
  • Optimize and refine the constituent record management system to boost fundraising efficiency.
  • Partner with finance to ensure accurate invoicing and timely pledge fulfillment.
  • Participate in SPUR events and meetings outside of standard business hours.

Administrative Duties

  • Ensure all stages of donor management are recorded in the CRM system.
  • Enhance Salesforce to improve corporate fundraising capabilities.
  • Oversee the creation and accuracy of corporate accounting dashboards.
  • Collaborate with communications to develop marketing materials for events.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and managing a diverse portfolio of corporate and foundation donors.
  • Ability to foster public support and enthusiasm for SPUR's mission.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing fundraising strategies to meet revenue goals.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of juggling multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, goal setting, and budget management.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Experience in coaching and inspiring teams towards high performance.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM systems, with a strategic approach to utilizing donor databases.
  • Exceptional planning, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong collaborative skills, able to work effectively across departments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Resilient and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • Passionate about urban issues, public policy, and the Bay Area, with an understanding of local giving trends.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$143,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. SPUR offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, commuter benefits, work-from-home stipends, employee assistance programs, generous parental leave, and a retirement plan with a 25% contribution match.
