Position Overview:

This role offers a competitive sign-on bonus of $50,000.


Job Responsibilities:

The Optometrist will conduct thorough examinations of patients experiencing a wide range of visual issues. Responsibilities include diagnosing ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, as well as prescribing appropriate treatments in accordance with state regulations.


Key duties include:

  • Utilizing advanced optometric instruments and techniques to assess patients' visual health.
  • Diagnosing and managing visual diseases and prescribing corrective measures as per the legal framework of Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
  • Fitting and prescribing contact lenses tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Assessing the visual requirements of patients with partial sight.
  • Recommending low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, to assist patients with low vision.
  • Employing diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and evaluate ocular conditions, under the guidance of a physician.
  • Identifying ocular signs of systemic diseases through comprehensive examination techniques.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers within Kaiser Permanente for further patient evaluation and treatment.
  • Engaging in departmental meetings and educational activities, including peer reviews.
  • Consulting with specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of eye care education programs for both staff and patients.
  • In partnership with ophthalmologists, managing anterior segment disorders.

This position requires flexibility, including rotating Saturdays and potential travel to various optometry centers as needed.


Qualifications:

Experience: Not applicable.

Education: Must have graduated from an accredited Optometry program.

Licensure: Valid Optometrist License in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia is required.

Certifications: Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory at the time of hire. A National Provider Identifier is also required.


Preferred Qualifications:

At least two years of experience in a collaborative healthcare environment is preferred, or successful completion of an accredited residency program in Optometry.
