Position Overview


Supports the land survey Party Chief in conducting surveys of the earth's surface to accurately identify locations and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for various purposes including construction and land division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in the planning, diagramming, and layout of surveying tasks.
  • Execute manual labor associated with surveying, such as clearing brush for lines and transporting stakes and markers to define project features.
  • Assist in establishing required elevations and grades.
  • Install or clearly mark elevations as directed by the Surveying Journeyman.
  • Manually measure distances using survey chains and maintain them for accuracy.
  • Set up and operate electronic measuring and sighting equipment as necessary.
  • Utilize and maintain surveying tools and instruments.
  • Review work to ensure compliance with relevant standards.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Junior Surveying Technician in an industrial or powerplant environment is essential.
  • Possess the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.
  • Ability to comprehend, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.

Requirements

The individual in this role must be capable of moving around a construction or industrial site, which includes standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.

  • Regularly works in a construction environment and may be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.


  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
  • May need to use ladders, mechanical platforms, or scaffolding to access work areas, which can exceed heights of 200 feet, thus requiring the ability to climb and maintain balance.


  • Ability to navigate confined and cluttered spaces and uneven surfaces.
  • Capable of performing tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
  • May need to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the site.


  • Must possess the required tools.
  • Adhere to all safety and project regulations and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Must successfully pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing and fit-for-duty medical evaluations.
