Agricultural Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Agricultural Technician to join our team at the Department of Food & Agriculture. As an Agricultural Technician, you will work under the supervision of the Agricultural Program Supervisor I to perform entomological or plant pest field and laboratory work.

• Conduct visual surveys, eradication, and detection/delimitation trapping using established protocols.
• Service various insect traps, perform visual surveys, and insect sweeps to identify target pest damage on local plant hosts.
• Collect, process, and package suspect plant and insect samples for submission to the Plant Pest Diagnostics Center for identification.
• Keep daily reports of work completed, including number of traps serviced, properties treated, acreage surveyed, and samples collected.
• Screen wet and dry traps for target pests and examine content to make preliminary identifications of specimens.
• Interact with the public in a professional manner and transport vehicles to service facilities.

The duties of this position are conducted indoors and outdoors, with regular exposure to dust, Day-Glo Dye, and other chemicals. The work site may involve multi-leveled areas with ramps and blacktop surfaces.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to read maps to drive to multiple locations and draw maps to show exact geographic locations using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
