Your Role on the Team

Position Summary: The Coder is responsible for timely review of patient records in order to identify an appropriate selection of codes that will accurately reflect the reason for admission, extent of care received, and level of severity of illness. The Coder is further responsible for ensuring that all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected and included in the patient's demographic record.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Coder to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 2 years of working experience, or demonstrate competence in coding inpatient, same day surgery, emergency department, outpatient diagnostic medical records or must have adequate training in assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes. The candidate must also demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job, excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System. Preferred qualifications include 2 years' experience as a coder in an acute care hospital and knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.

Physical Requirements

The Coder must be sighted and able to hear normal phone conversation, have sufficient manual dexterity to utilize computer keyboards, be able to sit and/or stand for long periods, be able to write legibly, and be able to speak without impediment.
