Culture Instructor Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and culturally sensitive Culture Instructor to join our team at the Kenaitze Indian Tribe. As a Culture Instructor, you will play a vital role in providing culturally relevant educational opportunities and prevention services to youth based on the Tribe's values, tradition, and culture.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement culturally appropriate lessons and projects within the Yaghanen K-12 program.
  • Provide supervision and direction for youth participating in the Tribe's youth programs, including summer camps, Native Youth Olympics, Jabila'ina Dance Group, and Del Dumi Drum Group.
  • Work as a team member with Yaghanen staff to ensure cultural programming is appropriately reflected.
  • Direct and supervise youth during Yaghanen summer and winter programs, including maintaining attendance records.
  • Provide educational support during school hours in local school buildings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the data management system.
  • Transport items, including lifting and driving, for Yaghanen programs.
  • Model appropriate behavior for youth.
  • Ensure compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies, and TERO ordinance.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Three (3) years of experience working with youth in an education setting.
  • A deep understanding and appreciation for the Kenaitze Dena'ina culture, history, and traditions or willingness to learn after hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities.
  • Experience in public speaking.
Working Conditions:

The Culture Instructor will work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of youth and staff. The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and be physically active. The Culture Instructor will also be required to travel to events, competitions, and camps.
