Field Data Collection
Conduct field research by gathering data, utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for navigation in remote locations. Employ radio telemetry tools to track collared wildlife. Ensure the integrity of data collected by overseeing quality control measures. Design and implement surveys to evaluate the effects on game mammal populations across the state and analyze environmental conditions and habitats. This may involve collecting biological samples such as Fecal Deoxyribonucleic acid (fDNA) and hair, assisting in wildlife captures, and managing camera trap systems. Provide training to team members on data collection protocols and stewardship practices. Collaborate with academic researchers, non-profit organizations, and federal agencies to utilize existing data resources.

Data Management and Analysis
Process and organize camera trap images and other collected data. Manage the compilation and maintenance of statewide databases and spreadsheets. Ensure quality control of field data. Apply statistical methods and GIS tools to support data analysis and reporting. Aid in the establishment of central repositories for biological and scientific data, focusing on collar data, camera images, and audio recordings. Assist in structuring data to facilitate robust scientific research and maintain a repository of scientific literature.

Documentation and Reporting
Review and edit reports, publications, and various documents on diverse topics. Provide assistance with complex procurement processes necessary for conducting wildlife research. Ensure equipment is maintained for safe field operations and keep accurate records of assets and related documentation.

This role is a Limited Term appointment, with the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent position.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must either be eligible for transfer or successfully complete the required examination.

Working Environment

Working conditions may vary seasonally, with data management tasks potentially occurring during adverse weather. Fieldwork locations may span across the state based on project priorities.

Special Qualifications

Candidates must be capable of undertaking day hikes and collecting biological data in challenging terrain and weather conditions, where exposure to biting insects and poison oak may occur.
