Position: Head Cheerleading Coach

Reports To: Building Athletic Coordinator

Compensation: Stipend as per the DEA Master Agreement

Employment Status: Non-exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the building athletic coordinator and principal, the Head Cheerleading Coach will instruct and guide athletes in preparation for competitive events. The coach is responsible for fostering individual and team performance in various sports, including cheerleading, while being well-versed in the rules, strategies, and techniques pertinent to the sport. Knowledge of sports equipment, physical fitness, safety protocols, and compliance with eligibility guidelines is essential. The coach's attire will be determined by the Executive Director of Athletics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will primarily engage in the following activities:

Communication and Organization

Effectively relay information regarding expectations, practices, competitions, and other relevant events to parents, players, and administration promptly. Conduct orientation sessions for parents, athletes, and assistant coaches. Establish procedures to maintain open lines of communication with parents and athletes to address any team-related concerns.

Administrative Duties

Adhere to the regulations set forth by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), district, state, and school athletic codes. Monitor athletes' attendance, behavior, and academic performance. Ensure the quality and accuracy of any communications with the media.

Athlete Training and Development

Instruct athletes on sports techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics. Conduct practices with defined objectives and structured plans. Prepare athletes physically for activities that demand endurance, strength, and agility. Supervise practices and competitions to ensure safety; oversee locker rooms and transportation. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsibility among athletes. Administer first aid in response to player injuries using approved techniques. Exemplify appropriate behavior and sportsmanship both in and out of the competitive environment. Provide support for absent coaches as needed. Foster a positive and motivating atmosphere.

Communicate program goals and objectives effectively to parents and the community. Encourage leadership, initiative, and sound judgment among team members. Establish training rules that promote abstaining from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Assist team members in setting personal academic goals. Recognize and reinforce the individual worth of each athlete. Serve as a role model exemplifying high moral character.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen or possess legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Verifications

Must pass background checks as mandated by federal and state regulations. Ohio Teaching license is preferred.

Knowledge and Experience

Minimum of three years of coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level in the relevant sport. Familiarity with the overall operation of an athletic program. Must possess valid certifications in CPR/First-Aid, Pupil Activity Permit, Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports Course, and Cardiac Arrest Course. Preference will be given to DEA credentialed educators when qualifications are equal. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Adequate vision to read printed materials. Sufficient distance and peripheral vision, along with the ability to focus. Ability to perceive depth and distinguish colors. Sufficient hearing to comprehend verbal instructions and engage in normal conversations. Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone. Capability to reach horizontally and vertically with arms. Dexterity to manipulate small objects and write legibly. Physical strength and stamina to perform activities such as climbing, bending, standing, kneeling, walking, and lifting objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly operates in an office setting. Work may involve frequent interruptions. Some tasks may need to be completed within strict timelines.
