Position: Head Cheerleading Coach
Reporting To: Building Athletic Coordinator
Compensation: Stipend as per the DEA Master Agreement
Employment Status: Non-exempt
OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the building athletic coordinator and principal, the head coach, along with the assistant coach, is responsible for guiding and training athletes in preparation for competitive events. Coaches are dedicated to enhancing individual and team performance in various sports, including cheerleading. They possess in-depth knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques pertinent to their sport, alongside an understanding of sports equipment, physical fitness, safety protocols, and compliance regulations set forth by the district and the Ohio High School Athletics Association. The appropriate attire for coaches will be determined by the Executive Director of Athletics. Due to the increasing responsibilities and requirements from the district and OHSAA standards, coaches will not be eligible for athletic director roles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will primarily perform the following duties:
Communication and Organization
Relay information regarding expectations, practices, competitions, and other events to parents, players, and administration promptly. Conduct orientation sessions for parents, athletes, and assistant coaches. Establish procedures and maintain open lines of communication with parents and athletes to address any team-related issues or concerns.Administrative Duties
Adhere to the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), district, state, and school athletic codes, rules, and philosophies. Monitor athlete attendance, behavior, and academic performance. Ensure the quality and accuracy of any communications with the media.Athlete Training and Preparation
Instruct athletes on sports techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics. Conduct practices with defined objectives and structured practice plans. Prepare athletes physically for activities requiring endurance, strength, and agility. Supervise and conduct practices and competitions safely; oversee locker rooms and transportation. Instill values of sportsmanship, teamwork, work ethic, and responsibility in athletes. Administer first aid in response to player injuries using approved techniques. Exhibit appropriate behavior and sportsmanship both in and out of the athletic environment. Provide coverage for absent coaches as needed. Foster positive motivation among team members.Expectations for All Coaches
Demonstrate humility in victory and graciousness in defeat. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Ensure a safe environment for practice and competition. Communicate program goals and objectives effectively to parents and the community. Strive to cultivate leadership, initiative, and sound judgment in each team member. Establish training rules that promote positive values, including abstaining from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Encourage team members to set personal goals for academic success. Recognize and reinforce the individual worth and self-image of each athlete. Serve as a role model, exemplifying high moral character for young people.CORE COMPETENCIES

Must be a U.S. citizen or possess legal authorization to work in the U.S.Verifications
Must successfully pass Federal and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation background checks. Ohio Teaching license is preferred.Knowledge and Experience
Minimum of three years of coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level in the relevant sport. Familiarity with the overall operation of an athletic program. Must pass a district background check. Hold valid certifications in CPR/First-Aid, Pupil Activity Permit, Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports Course, and Cardiac Arrest Course. Preference will be given to DEA credentialed educators when qualifications are equal. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; strong oral and written communication skills.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
