ROLE SUMMARY

As an Athletic Coach within the Dayton Public School District, you will collaborate closely with the building athletic director, head coach, and fellow assistant coaches to guide and develop student-athletes for competitive events. Coaches are instrumental in fostering both individual and team success across various sports, including basketball, football, and baseball. A comprehensive knowledge of sports regulations, strategies, and safety protocols is critical, alongside adherence to the guidelines set forth by DPS and the Ohio High School Athletics Association.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication and Organization

  • Clearly communicate expectations, schedules, and event information to parents, athletes, and school administration.
  • Facilitate orientation sessions for parents, athletes, and assistant coaches.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents and athletes to resolve any team-related issues.

Administrative Duties

  • Comply with OHSAA, district, state, and school athletic regulations.
  • Monitor athlete attendance, conduct, and academic performance.
  • Ensure professionalism and accuracy in all media communications.

Training and Development of Athletes

  • Educate athletes on techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics relevant to their sport.
  • Design and implement practice sessions with defined objectives.
  • Prepare athletes physically for competitions while ensuring their safety during practices and events.
  • Instill values of sportsmanship and teamwork among athletes.
  • Administer first aid in the event of player injuries.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

Verification:

  • Successful completion of required background checks.
  • Preferred possession of an Ohio Teaching license.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of coaching experience at the high school level or higher.
  • Familiarity with the operations of athletic programs.
  • Relevant certifications in CPR, First Aid, Coaching fundamentals, and related areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Visual, auditory, and physical capabilities to fulfill job responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office environment with occasional interruptions.
  • Some responsibilities require adherence to strict timelines.
