About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical First Assistant to join our team at Ascension Saint Thomas. As a key member of our surgical team, you will provide direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, including positioning patients and utilizing stabilizing equipment as needed.
  • Assist with visualization of the operative site, using appropriate methods and techniques to maximize patient comfort and safety.
  • Utilize appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems, maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Participate as a surgical team member in the preparation of the surgical suite, adhering to surgeon's preference cards and ensuring the availability of necessary instruments, resources, and supplies.
Requirements
  • BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Certified First Surgical Assistant certification obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience or Associate's degree/Technical degree or 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
