Patient Access Representative

At UPMC Life Changing Medicine, we are seeking a skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team. This role is responsible for coordinating patient access for all phases of the revenue cycle, from scheduling and registration to referral and denial management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with department leadership and team members to ensure seamless patient access processes.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of managed care environment, third-party reimbursement, hospital and community services, and hospital and healthcare policies.
  • Complete inpatient and outpatient registration and insurance eligibility processes, creating a positive first impression for patients, family members, and external customers.
  • Articulate information to patients, guarantors, and family members regarding financial responsibilities and expectations.
  • Interview patients/guarantors to obtain demographic and confidential clinical and financial information necessary for scheduling, registration, treatment authorizations, and insurance eligibility verification.
  • Enter information into the hospital's computer system to expedite data collection, billing, and reimbursement.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance carriers, and external professionals to assist families in obtaining healthcare and financial services.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; two years of experience in a healthcare role or one year in a medical/billing/fiscal setting preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred.
