Radiology Practitioner Assistant

As a Radiology Practitioner Assistant at UPMC, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect care to patients. You will work closely with radiologists to perform various procedures, including vascular access, placement and removal of peripherally inserted central catheters, and venipuncture. You will also assist with procedures in surgery, set up and operate equipment, and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities:
Perform vascular access with direct supervision of a radiologist.
Perform placement and removal of peripherally inserted central catheters with direct supervision of a radiologist.
Perform venipuncture following hospital policy.
Perform venograms with direct supervision of a radiologist.
Place Foley catheters and enteric tubes with direct supervision of a radiologist.
Assist with procedures in surgery and set up and operate equipment, taking radiographs as directed by the surgeon.
Maintain adequate records as directed on requisitions, etc.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness, securing and returning needed supplies.
Transfer and position patients.
Provide protective devices as required.
Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Select and operate equipment as directed.
Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross contamination.
Perform quality assurance activities, as assigned.
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspect of care to all stages of the life cycle and to various states of health and disease.
Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must be an American Registered Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.).
Must possess manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; must be able to adapt to all types of conditions of patients.
Certified by the CBRPA or considered eligible for the CBRPA certification examination (must be certified with 12 months of graduation) or certified by the ARRT as a Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA).
Completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree Continuing education activities are required and are evidenced by current certification of the ARRT and CBRPA.
Maintain a current BLS-CPR (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
ARRT Certificate.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
