Job Summary:

As a Radiographer I at UPMC, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our medical imaging team. This full-time evening position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and develop your skills in radiography.

Responsibilities:

• Provides protective devices as required and uses them properly to ensure patient safety.

• May be responsible for instructing ancillary personnel on specific areas of radiography and answering questions to ensure proper procedures are followed.

• Maintains a clean and organized work environment, ensuring equipment is cleaned between patients and supplies are stored properly.

• Selects appropriate technical factors for individual patients and operates equipment as directed to produce high-quality images.

• Utilizes tracking equipment to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper charging of patient exams.

• Assists with procedures in surgery, sets up and operates equipment, and takes radiographs as directed by the surgeon.

• Transfers and positions patients safely and correctly, with a focus on patient comfort and safety.

• Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards, shielding patients when necessary and questioning females of child-bearing age about pregnancy.

• Performs quality assurance activities as assigned and maintains accurate records.

• Rotates within the department or other areas as required, reporting to assigned areas as needed.

• Maintains adequate records as directed on requisitions, etc., and properly documents all required information.

• Assists physicians in administering opaque media and informs radiologists of patient history, assisting in administering contrast when necessary.

• Secures and returns needed supplies, restocking all rooms and film magazines.

• Assists in performing first aid as necessary, with knowledge of first aid and where to find needed supplies.

• Utilizes PACS to review and acquire current and previous images, accessing accession numbers as needed.

• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspects of care to all stages of the life cycle and various states of health and disease.

• Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination, with knowledge of sterile technique and no evidence of cross-contamination deficiencies.

Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent.

• Must be a graduate of a radiology technology program.

• Must be an American Registered Radiological Technologist (A.R.R.T.) or become registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within one year of hiring.

• Must possess manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, with the ability to adapt to all types of patient conditions.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• CPR required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

• ARRT Certificate.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.

• Act 33 with renewal.

• Act 34 with renewal.

• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
