Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Construction Engineer to join our team at Turner Construction. As a key member of our operations staff, you will provide technical, administrative, and training support for project development, with a focus on project engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform constructability reviews during preconstruction on assigned projects, supporting Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) preparation and estimate preparation as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on national and local building codes and requirements, as well as Turner's internal policies.
  • Monitor and assist in the development, training, and evaluation of engineering personnel.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, ethics, and compliance requirements at all times.
  • Stay current on industry technology and manage the rollout of new technologies onto Turner job sites.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Business Units (BUs) to discuss current challenges, relevant issues, lessons learned, and exchange of information.
  • Update and improve content of existing procedures manuals, developing new manuals for areas not fully covered.
  • Assemble and make available detailed checklists on various topics, with an emphasis on risk management.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers on industry-related topics, coordinating meetings as needed.
  • Attend conferences and industry seminars to gather information on new technologies or systems, reviewing their impact on our business.
  • Actively participate in project start-ups, maintaining a general overview of engineering procedures.
  • Visit projects periodically to assist with risk management, collecting best practices and sharing with other projects and BUs.
  • Review closeout procedures with projects.
  • Responsible for off-site document storage and retrieval.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree or minimum four years of formal engineering or architectural training, and a minimum of fifteen years of building construction experience. Alternatively, we will consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques, as well as a basic understanding of Turner accounting procedures.

Physical Demands

The performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, and climb ladders. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, as well as sitting, talking, and hearing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly work on-site at the construction work site, where they will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
