Job Description

Los Angeles Metro is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Associate to join our team. As an Engineering Associate, you will provide intermediate-level engineering support to Operations and support department projects, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient service for Metro customers and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the integrated project management of the design and construction of the Purple (D) Line Subway Extension project.
  • Assist in achieving project engineering tasks and goals.
  • Compile and analyze data for engineering projects, recommending materials and equipment.
  • Provide engineering support for various departments.
  • Read and interpret system drawings for all lines.
  • Assist in preparing feasibility studies/engineering reports and managing smaller projects.
  • Develop scopes of work for projects.
  • Prepare plans, sketches, specifications, and estimates for design, construction, and modification of Metro facilities.
  • Review consultants' plans, sketches, certifications, and related documents for compliance with Metro standards and requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, modify, and repair engineering systems, software, and equipment issues.
  • Develop and research permanent and sustainable solutions for issues; plan and implement preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prepare project reports and correspondence.
  • Perform project control activities, such as budget and schedule reviews.
  • Develop procedures for maintaining remote terminal units and computer systems for various applications.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to new or entry-level employees in operating engineering systems, software, and equipment.
  • Update databases and maintain records of changes.
  • Represent Metro with the construction/engineering/supplier community.
  • May respond to site emergencies.
Requirements
  • A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • One year of relevant experience performing engineering work in an appropriate discipline; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in the area of assignment.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing engineering or project analysis.
  • Experience writing and reviewing engineering documents.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering consultants, contractors, and third-party agencies.

Physical Effort Required
  • Sitting at a desk or table.
  • Operating a telephone or other telecommunications device and communicating through the medium.
  • Typing and using a keyboard and mouse to perform necessary computer-based functions.
