Job Title: Associate Civil Engineer

Job Summary:

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Associate Civil Engineer to join our Public Works team. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for performing a combination of essential job functions, including applying the principles and practices of civil engineering, budget preparation, and personnel management and supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply the principles and practices of civil engineering, including the methods and materials used in the design and construction of varied civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare budgets and manage personnel and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Review and evaluate progress and results for technical quality and conformity to established standards.
  • Keep management informed throughout the project span.
  • Organize and express information in comprehensive reports and may be required to organize and express conclusions in the form of oral presentations.
  • Participate in engineering research work involving investigation of specific problems and the development of new engineering methods, procedures, and systems.
  • Analyze and prepare contracts and specifications for major engineering projects.
  • Serve as resident engineer during the construction of bridges and other projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a civil engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Valid California State Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer.
  • Ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is typical of a public works office, with occasional travel to construction sites and other locations. The physical demands of the job include light physical effort, which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
