Civil Engineer Associate

Job Summary:
The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Associate Civil Engineer to join our Public Works team. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for performing a combination of essential job functions, including applying the principles and practices of civil engineering, budget preparation, and personnel management and supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply the principles and practices of civil engineering, including the methods and materials used in the design and construction of varied civil engineering projects.
- Prepare budgets and manage personnel and supervise the work of subordinates.
- Review and evaluate progress and results for technical quality and conformity to established standards.
- Keep management informed throughout the project span.
- Organize and express information in comprehensive reports and may be required to organize and express conclusions in the form of oral presentations.
- Participate in engineering research work involving investigation of specific problems and the development of new engineering methods, procedures, and systems.
- Analyze and prepare contracts and specifications for major engineering projects.
- Serve as resident engineer during the construction of bridges and other projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a civil engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Valid California State Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer.
- Ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Working Conditions:
The work environment is typical of a public works office, with occasional travel to construction sites and other locations. The physical demands of the job include light physical effort, which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
