Job Summary:

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Associate Civil Engineer to join our Public Works team. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for performing a combination of essential job functions, including applying the principles and practices of civil engineering, budget preparation, personnel management, and supervision. You will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing engineering activities, programs, or projects, and reviewing and evaluating progress and results for technical quality and conformity to established standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply the principles and practices of civil engineering, including the methods and materials used in the design and construction of varied civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare budgets and manage personnel, including supervising and evaluating the work of subordinates.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering activities, programs, or projects, and review and evaluate progress and results for technical quality and conformity to established standards.
  • Keep management informed throughout the project span, and organize and express information in comprehensive reports and oral presentations.
  • Participate in engineering research work, including investigation of specific problems and the development of new engineering methods, procedures, and systems.
  • Analyze and prepare contracts and specifications for major engineering projects, and serve as a resident engineer during the construction of bridges and other projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a civil engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Valid California State Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer.
  • Ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is typical of an office setting with occasional fieldwork. The physical demands of the job include light physical effort, which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
