About the Role:

The Water Treatment Operations Specialist will be responsible for operating and maintaining a municipal class-3, 8-MGD conventional filtration surface water treatment plant with UV. This is a critical role that requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate equipment manually and through instrument panels and computer terminals.
  • Perform field tests (chemical and physical) to pace chemical dosages for process control units or alter unit processes.
  • Monitor and observe operating conditions, record observations and data, and diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action.
  • Follow process control procedures for assigned areas, verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to Manager.
  • Prepare chemical solutions, monitor process chemical supplies, and recommend reorder.
  • Sample water and solids according to schedule.
  • Perform routine lab tests and routine instrument calibrations.
  • Perform minor maintenance, including routine preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments, and perform basic troubleshooting of equipment, recommend solutions, and fill out work orders.
  • Operate vehicles for plant operational use.
  • Perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.

Work Environment:

The Water Treatment Operations Specialist will typically spend 75% of their time in operations environment and 25% of their time in office environment. May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Experience within a water treatment environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water treatment are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities, and meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and manage remedial action.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in order to interface with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Seeking strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet management.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site-specific, facility-required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Water Environment Tech AA or coursework in science or engineering is desired.
  • Certification as a water operator is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements:

The Water Treatment Operations Specialist will be required to stand 25%, sit 25%, and walk 50% of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces. May be required to use ladders or stairs. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.
