Job Title: Water Treatment Plant O&M Technician

Veolia North America is seeking a skilled Water Treatment Plant O&M Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of our municipal class-3, 8-MGD conventional filtration surface water treatment plant with UV.

Job Summary:

The Water Treatment Plant O&M Technician will operate and maintain the plant's equipment, perform field tests, and monitor operating conditions to ensure the production of high-quality water. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of water treatment processes, be able to diagnose problems, and take corrective action.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain plant equipment, including manual and instrument panel operations.
  • Perform field tests to determine chemical dosages and alter unit processes as needed.
  • Monitor and record operating conditions, diagnose problems, and take corrective action.
  • Follow process control procedures and report suspected malfunctions and variances to the Manager.
  • Prepare chemical solutions and monitor process chemical supplies.
  • Sample water and solids according to schedule.
  • Perform routine lab tests and instrument calibrations.
  • Perform minor maintenance, including routine preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments.
  • Operate vehicles for plant operational use.
  • Perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
Work Environment:
  • Typically spends 75% of time in operations environment and 25% of time in office environment.
  • May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties.
  • May be exposed to possible operations hazards, including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water, and electrical hazards.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Experience within a water treatment environment with knowledge of water treatment methods, techniques, principles, and practices is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities, and meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and manage remedial action.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet management.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site-specific, facility-required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
  • Water Environment Tech AA or coursework in science or engineering is desired.
  • Certification as a water operator is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
  • Amount of time spent – Standing 25%, Sitting 25%, Walking 50%.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces.
  • May be required to use ladders or stairs.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
