POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Financial Accountant plays a vital role in advancing Green Dot's mission to equip students for success in higher education, leadership, and life. This position is essential for managing charter school funding and overseeing the preparation of financial statements for charter schools.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of GAAP applicable to nonprofit organizations and will provide training and guidance to school sites on financial accounting practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute bank and journal entries to support a cluster of schools, including managing weekly cash deposits, EFT receipts, and revenue accruals.
  • Generate invoices for accounts receivable and oversee the collection process.
  • Ensure timely and precise month-end closing by adhering to established deadlines.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet items.
  • Review transaction reports and financial statements, collaborating with accounting team members and finance.
  • Assist the compliance team in evaluating the classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to special programs, ensuring proper utilization of grant funds.
  • Prepare schools for audit visits, ensuring robust controls are in place to maximize student outcome funding.
  • Provide support and insights to school and business managers to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Foster relationships with school site and central office personnel.
  • Collaborate with schools to ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Engage in school-related events and visits to contribute to team culture.
  • Participate in the development of a strong finance and accounting department that embodies operational best practices.
  • Contribute to the formulation and enhancement of financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Assess and improve internal control processes, recommending enhancements to protect assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations, nonprofit compliance standards, and industry best practices, integrating relevant updates into daily operations.
  • Undertake special projects and additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years (5 years preferred) of progressive experience in accounting or a related field.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • CPA certification (preferred).
  • Experience with Workday (preferred).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP procedures and internal controls.
  • Experience with nonprofit audits, including federal, state, and local compliance (preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and achieving project goals.
  • A high level of personal accountability, a growth mindset, and a strong work ethic.
  • Dependability, humility, a sense of humor, and a steadfast commitment to Green Dot's mission and the communities served.
  • Ability to pass a TB test and background check upon offer.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is $82,000 - $88,000, with consideration for individual education and experience.
