Job Overview

Position Summary

The Range Technician is accountable for the upkeep and functionality of FIRST RF's specialized 50-foot anechoic test chamber. This role encompasses preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and calibration of the test chamber, alongside the setup and execution of diverse tests on various antennas, ranging from research prototypes to fully developed FIRST RF products. The Range Technician will work in tandem with engineers and technicians to ensure the testing schedule is efficiently organized and maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance, including daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  • Prepare and install a variety of antennas on the test tower within the chamber.
  • Utilize Spectrum 959 software from Orbit/FR for data collection setup and execution on antennas. Some tests will be strictly defined, while others may require the technician to propose potential tests based on input from engineers or technicians.
  • Maintain a comprehensive log of tests conducted.
  • Perform routine data analysis on collected results.
  • Monitor the test chamber's characteristics closely to identify potential issues proactively.
  • Diagnose and resolve any part of the test system when problems occur to restore normal operations swiftly and effectively.

Supervisory Role

This position does not entail direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is situated in a professional office setting. The technician will regularly utilize standard office equipment, including laptops and photocopiers.

Physical Requirements

While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate verbally and audibly. Specific vision capabilities necessary for this role include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position may necessitate lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and standing or bending as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to assist individuals with disabilities in performing essential functions.

Additionally, the employee must be capable of lifting and moving up to 40 pounds and lifting 30 pounds overhead.

Position Type and Expected Hours

This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week. During the training phase, the schedule is anticipated to be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Following training, the schedule will transition to Monday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, though hours may vary based on workload and managerial discretion. This position may require more than 40 hours of work per week as necessary.

Travel Requirements

No travel is anticipated for this role.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Residence in Colorado.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A capacity to excel in a self-directed environment with minimal boundaries and occasionally conflicting priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, coupled with a detail-oriented problem-solving approach.
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to maintain focus and precision.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical College degree.
  • A foundational understanding of electromagnetic theory, particularly the propagation of electromagnetic waves.
