Job Overview

SUMMARY The Welding Technician is accountable for enhancing training, conducting research, improving quality, and minimizing costs associated with welding and related finishing operations. This role collaborates closely with the Quality department to ensure effective implementation of gaging processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assessing candidates for welding, burning, and carbon arc airing for their skills and potential.
  2. Creating welding procedures for new materials or processes.
  3. Investigating, testing, and integrating new finishing tools and materials.
  4. Conducting weekly audits on welding quality.
  5. Overseeing the training program for welders, burners, and carbon arc washers.
  6. Managing the inventory control system.
  7. Collaborating with suppliers to enhance the quality of welding and related processes while reducing expenses.
  8. Identifying and resolving quality issues in welding and related processes.
  9. Working with management to ensure the quality and efficiency of welders and allied process operators.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

This position is responsible for the overall guidance, coordination, and assessment of the unit. Supervisory responsibilities are carried out in alignment with the organization's policies and applicable regulations. This includes training staff, planning, assigning, and directing tasks, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing concerns and resolving issues.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

An Associate's degree in Welding Technology or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a welding-related position.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical literature, financial documents, engineering drawings, and legal papers. Capable of responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory bodies, or business associates. Proficient in writing articles and speeches that adhere to prescribed formats. Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public groups, and boards of directors.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to tackle practical problems and manage a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations with limited standardization. Capable of interpreting and composing a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Basic supervisory training and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

CERTIFICATIONS

ISO Auditor Certificate and Certified Welding Inspector.
