Job Overview

SUMMARY The Welding Technician is accountable for the training, research, quality enhancement, and cost efficiency of welding and related finishing operations. This role collaborates closely with the Quality department to effectively implement the gaging process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assessing new welding, burning, and carbon arc airing candidates for their skills and potential.
  2. Creating welding procedures for new materials or techniques.
  3. Researching, testing, evaluating, and integrating new finishing tools and materials.
  4. Conducting weekly audits of welding quality.
  5. Overseeing the training program for welders, burners, and carbon arc washers.
  6. Managing the inventory control system.
  7. Collaborating with suppliers to enhance welding and related process quality while minimizing costs.
  8. Investigating and resolving quality issues related to welding and allied processes.
  9. Working with management to ensure the quality and productivity of welders and allied process operators.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position entails overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the welding unit. Responsibilities include training staff, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving issues in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

An Associate's degree in Welding Technology or a related field, coupled with a minimum of five years of experience in a welding-related environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting scientific and technical literature, financial reports, engineering diagrams, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory bodies. Competence in writing articles and speeches that adhere to prescribed styles and formats. Capability to effectively present information to senior management and public groups.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations with limited standardization. Proficiency in interpreting and composing various instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Basic supervisory training and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

ISO Auditor Certificate and Certified Welding Inspector credentials.
