Role Overview:
Shuttlewagon, a Wabtec Company, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler. The Assembler plays a crucial role in the production of highly engineered, custom-built mobile material handling machinery for rail-related markets. This involves utilizing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly techniques, alongside welding, electrical wiring, and hitching on overhead cranes and jibs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble fabricated parts, components, or units at designated floor stations.
  • Test and calibrate parts and mechanisms to ensure compliance with tolerances and product specifications.
  • Employ hand and power tools to assemble units according to specified guidelines.
  • Identify and repair units that do not meet testing or tolerance standards.
  • Assist less experienced team members by sharing knowledge and expertise.

Essential Duties:

  • Read and adhere to standard work instructions, BOMs, blueprints, routings, specifications, and other diagrams to accurately build and assemble parts and equipment.
  • Obtain and utilize necessary tools and equipment, handling materials manually or with jib cranes as required.
  • Follow piping diagrams or instructions to connect hydraulic and pneumatic hosing or piping accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain high-quality standards and consistently meet productivity levels as determined by management.
  • Prepare machinery for shipping and conduct machinery rebuilding, cleaning, repairing, disassembling, reassembling, and adjusting as necessary.

Wiring Responsibilities:

  • Follow wiring diagrams and schematics to accurately connect electrical cabling.
  • Perform wiring sequences for point-to-point direct or harness wiring.
  • Wire mounting panels and junction boxes according to documentation.
  • Create or re-wire harnesses and cables as per specifications.

General Duties:

  • Comply with all safety and work regulations.
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with engineering to communicate information accurately.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a custom build shop preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operate hand tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills with team members and management.
