Position Summary
Shuttlewagon, a subsidiary of Wabtec Corporation, is in search of a skilled Mechanical Assembly Technician. This role is pivotal in the production of highly specialized, custom-engineered mobile material handling machinery for rail-related sectors. The technician will employ mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic assembly techniques, alongside welding, electrical wiring, and hitching operations using overhead cranes and jibs.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and adhere to standard work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), blueprints, and other technical diagrams to accurately assemble parts and equipment.
- Gather necessary tools and equipment for assembly tasks.
- Manually handle materials and tools, utilizing jib cranes for hitching as required.
- Follow piping diagrams to connect hydraulic and pneumatic systems with precision.
- Uphold high-quality standards throughout the assembly process.
- Maintain productivity levels as established by management.
- Prepare components for painting as necessary.
- Layout, cut, and fit parts for welding as required.
- Ensure machinery is ready for shipping.
- Conduct machinery rebuilds and perform cleaning, repairs, disassembly, reassembly, and adjustments as needed.
Electrical Wiring Duties
- Adhere to wiring diagrams to accurately connect electrical cabling.
- Execute wiring sequences for direct or harness wiring.
- Wire mounting panels and junction boxes according to specifications.
- Develop or re-wire harnesses and cables as per documentation.
General Responsibilities
- Comply with all safety regulations and maintain cleanliness standards within the department.
- Fabricate small components as required.
- Complete production and quality assurance documentation.
- Engage actively in team meetings and discussions.
- Collaborate with engineering to convey accurate information.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives as necessary.
- Adhere to Quality Management System requirements.
- Engage in 5S activities to maintain workplace organization.
- Read and comprehend procedures written in English.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience: 3-5 years in a custom build shop is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, operating computers for data input, and using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Behavioral Attributes: Strong communication skills, accountability for results, mechanical aptitude, critical thinking, and a desire to excel.
