Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Scientist II, Screening Specialist to join our team in the Toxicology Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating the instruments used to perform the initial analysis on urine and oral fluid specimens for substances of abuse with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of the Screening Instruments and initial review of data
  • Knowledge of all screening methods
  • Troubleshoot issues with screening instruments
  • Meet turnaround goals and complete assigned tasks daily
  • Adherence to all standard operating procedures ensuring confidentiality of donor information
  • Adherence to all established guidelines outlined in Abbott's Employee Handbook
  • Screen all sample types on the analyzer
  • Cross train in Negative Certification
  • Discard specimens after analyzed
  • Complete all screen actions prior to the end of shift

Requirements

  • BS degree in science or equivalent related field
  • Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
  • Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
  • Advanced ability to understand certification requirements for SAMSHA, CAP-PUDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Basic ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
  • Basic understanding of drugs that are tested

About the Role

This role is within our Toxicology Division of Abbott located in Richmond, VA. The individual filling this position will be responsible for operating the instruments used to perform the initial analysis on urine and oral fluid specimens for substances of abuse with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations.
