Position Overview:


Penn Foster Inc. is seeking a proactive and seasoned Senior Vice President of Applied Sciences to oversee and direct the Science, Data Science, and Educational Management teams.

The Science team, currently comprising several skilled professionals, is dedicated to (1) providing immediate support for ongoing product development; (2) engaging in strategic, long-term planning and data enhancement to broaden the organization's reach; and (3) facilitating validation, publication, and outreach efforts.

The Senior Vice President will ensure an effective balance of team support for research initiatives, current product implementations, and other pressing requirements.


Mission of the Science Team:

To establish scientific credibility and authority for Penn Foster Inc. and its initiatives, support the organization's scientific information needs, and operate as a premier science delivery and innovation entity.

Penn Foster Inc. offers remote work flexibility, allowing the Senior Vice President to work from home, although some travel may be required.

Most activities currently focus on educational settings in the United States, with global opportunities anticipated.


Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Chief Scientist and Chief Resilience Officer to lead the existing Science, Data Science, and Educational Management teams and recruit additional specialists as needed to:

Develop and/or utilize established educational models (learning outcomes, student engagement, etc.) and assess their responses to various educational challenges (technology integration, curriculum changes, etc.) and interventions (a range of relevant educational strategies).

Identify and evaluate data quality from national, regional, and local educational sources.


Transform and adapt data while creating prototypes of scalable tools to implement models for optimization, visualization, monitoring, reporting, and collaboration.
Work alongside Product, Engineering, and other teams to develop practical tools and systems for educational use.

Secure external funding to support technical initiatives within the Science team.

Collaborate with the Policy team to align emerging educational research with policy advancements.


Partner with our non-profit division to maintain a public repository of valuable educational data sets.


Work closely with the Chief Scientist to establish a portfolio of practices and strategies to uphold scientific integrity, such as:

through publication, participation in key conferences, and media engagement.

Collaborate with the CEO on strategic priorities.

Assist in preparing detailed technical reports specific to educational landscapes.

Support Penn Foster Inc.'s growth to address international educational needs and challenges.

Required Qualifications:
Strong background in applied sciences (PhD preferred) with demonstrated professional engagement in scientific endeavors, including project management, data analysis, publication, and outreach.

Experience in executive or senior management roles, leading a team of diverse professionals.

Experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in collaborating with specialists across various educational and scientific disciplines.

Able to balance immediate project demands with long-term strategic goals.

Innovative mindset with a history of impactful contributions to educational enterprises.

Data-driven approach, with understanding of machine learning and AI applications in education.

Familiarity with data validation and quality assurance practices.

Understanding of educational program planning and implementation processes.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; experience managing remote teams.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.

Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.

Experience with project management and billing software is a plus.

Experience engaging with clients using proprietary educational software is advantageous.

$200k - $250k (based on experience).
