Role of Support Specialists

Support Specialists play a crucial role in empowering the individuals we serve to accomplish their personal goals and enjoy a Life Without Limits. They assist with various daily activities, ensuring that each person receives the individualized support they need to thrive.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support Specialists are responsible for providing daily assistance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This includes helping with personal care, meal preparation, transportation, and engaging in social activities. Our specialists are trained to recognize the unique strengths and challenges of each individual, customizing their support to foster growth and independence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates resident participation in chosen activities that align with Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
  • Provides necessary transportation and supervision for residents as outlined in their individual programs.
  • Maintains accurate records of daily activities, concerns, and needs of residents in the daily log.
  • Ensures residents' personal hygiene and grooming standards are upheld.
  • Utilizes proper lifting techniques to assist residents and administer prescribed exercises and care.
  • Conducts safety inspections of the home at the start of each shift, addressing any hazards or reporting them to a supervisor.
  • Implements evacuation drills for emergencies such as fire or severe weather as directed.
  • Adheres to emergency preparedness plans for various potential crises, including medical emergencies and missing persons.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all kitchen appliances, utensils, and work areas according to health regulations.
  • Prepares and cooks meals for residents.
  • Reports any equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Maintains cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchens, and communal areas in compliance with health guidelines.
  • Ensures adherence to local, state, and federal regulations regarding personal care homes and UCP Residential Services.
  • Follows confidentiality policies and procedures diligently.
  • Upholds the fundamental rights of clients and their families as defined by the agency.
  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling a minimum of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, On-Call

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license, CPR/First Aid certification, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.

Education and Experience:

Preferred 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a related field. Basic computer skills are required.
