Availability for 3-4 Afternoons is essential for transportation and academic assistance

This role contributes to the vision and initiatives of the Y, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to community service. The School Age Child Care (SACC) Support Educator at the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA offers direct oversight and guidance to a group of children within a school age child care setting, where self-esteem is nurtured, independence is promoted, and individuality is honored. The SACC Support Educator ensures the safety and well-being of each participant in alignment with YMCA of the USA standards and organizational policies based on their training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with members, colleagues, guests, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Assists the SACC Teacher, Head Teacher, and Directors in the planning and execution of program activities. Implements programs according to YMCA standards, having prepared accordingly, and supports participants in reaching their objectives.
  • Engages in positive and proactive communication with supervisors, staff, program participants, and parents.
  • Ensures cleanliness and safety of program participants, areas, and equipment.
  • Maintains a physical presence, stays alert at all times while on duty, keeps constant visual attention on program participants, remains aware of surroundings, and actively engages in all program activities.
  • Familiarizes with and reviews all emergency protocols, responding to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and completing necessary reports.
  • Understands, adheres to, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including those for child abuse prevention and the rule of three.
  • Acts as an ambassador for all YMCA programs, focusing on Child Care initiatives and member engagement that fosters loyalty among those served.
  • Complies with all Child Care procedures and guidelines, including health and safety, child supervision, discipline, drop-off/pick-up policies, attendance, documentation, and staff expectations as mandated by the YMCA, licensing, and state health regulations.
  • Participates in all required meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Must provide documentation of a physical examination and a TB Tine Test upon hire, to be repeated biennially.
  • Must submit Office of Early Childhood Background Check and fingerprinting forms within 30 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated capability to teach and assist in educational activities.
  • Exemplifies good role modeling, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Maintains composure and objectivity under pressure or when faced with challenges.
  • Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to respond calmly and swiftly in emergencies.
  • Connecticut Child Care CPR/First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment and maintained.
  • Certification in Medication Administration is preferred.
