This role is crucial for providing precise estimates for construction projects based on detailed drawings and specifications. The Estimator will collaborate closely with the Senior/Lead Estimator to determine costs associated with materials, equipment, subcontracted work, and labor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support all facets of subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes.
- Draft, proof, review, and deliver comprehensive proposals for both private and public projects.
- Engage with subcontractors and material suppliers to formulate estimates, implement cost reductions, and resolve discrepancies.
- Analyze construction documents and specifications to ascertain estimated costs.
- Collaborate with Operations Teams, Project Managers, and administrative staff during the preconstruction phase to assess plans for constructability and general project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with bidding regulations and project goals.
- Develop and present proposals to existing and potential clients.
- Manage multiple bids simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
- Utilize internal estimating systems and software proficiently.
- Implement quality assurance controls to minimize risk and exposure in estimating.
- Monitor and report changes in project scope and revenue to senior management.
- Administer RFQ and RFP solicitations effectively.
- Maintain effective communication and transfer relevant project information to the Project team.
- Review bids from subcontractors and suppliers for compliance with contract requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in estimating construction projects.
- Ability to interpret and follow construction documents accurately.
- Proficient in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid, PlanSwift, BlueBeam, MS Excel, MS Word).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent numerical and analytical abilities.
- Ability to engage with external clients with a strong commercial awareness.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong leadership qualities and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with financial and project management principles.
- In-depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
B.S. degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent field experience. A minimum of four years of construction experience, including at least two years in estimating.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to see and interpret written communications, including directions and warning signs. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Ability to navigate construction sites and perform physical tasks as needed.
