This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, specifically in the Facilities Management Service's Safety Section. The individual will act as the Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) Coordinator, tasked with safeguarding the environment, ensuring human health against environmental hazards, and enhancing air, land, and water quality.
Eligibility
This position is exclusively available to current permanent employees within the Veterans Integrated Service Network 6.
Key Responsibilities
1. **Program Coordination**: Lead and synchronize the efforts of the Hampton facility staff involved in GEMS to ensure compliance with VHA and facility policies.
2. **Continuous Improvement**: Oversee the GEMS program to ensure ongoing enhancement of environmental initiatives.
3. **Technical Leadership**: Provide guidance to management and technical teams on the development and execution of GEMS.
4. **Project Management**: Plan and implement projects aimed at resolving environmental challenges, including wastewater treatment, drinking water safety, hazardous waste management, and air quality control.
5. **Regulatory Oversight**: Manage environmental regulatory programs and coordinate activities related to environmental compliance.
6. **Policy Development**: Formulate and implement environmental policies and procedures.
7. **Pollution Prevention**: Assess and recommend strategies to minimize waste generation.
8. **Emergency Response**: Offer technical advice and manage responses to environmental emergencies, including hazardous material spills.
9. **Training Initiatives**: Develop and deliver training programs focused on environmental safety and compliance.
10. **Budget Management**: Prepare and present budgetary data related to environmental programs.
11. **Data Management**: Oversee environmental program databases to enhance operational efficiency.
12. **Impact Assessment**: Evaluate the environmental implications of facility expansions and modifications.
13. **Community Engagement**: Foster awareness of environmental issues through educational initiatives.
14. **Agency Interaction**: Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local environmental agencies.
15. **Professional Development**: Stay updated on advancements in environmental management and safety practices through continuous learning and professional networking.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
Virtual Work: This position requires on-site presence.
Additional Information
Compliance with health and safety regulations, including vaccination programs, is mandatory for all personnel in this role.
