Job Title: Assistant General Counsel

The State of Illinois is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide critical legal advice and support to the Illinois Human Rights Commission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal analysis and advice to the Commission on a wide range of issues, including employment, education, housing, and public accommodations.
  • Assist in the development and review of proposed legislation affecting the Commission.
  • Support the Commission's outreach, education, and training activities.
  • Represent the Commission in court as a Special Assistant Attorney General.
  • Ensure the Commission's compliance with all statutory mandates.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a recognized law school.
  • Possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of federal and state anti-discrimination laws.
  • Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
  • Knowledge of the common law and provisions of federal and state laws relating to administrative and regulatory functions.

The Illinois Human Rights Commission provides a neutral forum for resolving complaints of discrimination filed under the Illinois Human Rights Act. Our primary responsibility is to make impartial determinations of whether there has been unlawful discrimination, as defined by the Act.
