Job Overview

Position Summary
This role is essential in ensuring the safety and supervision of children during transit and in educational settings. Under the guidance of the Bus Driver or Educator, along with the Education/Disabilities Manager, the Bus Monitor/Floater plays a crucial role in fostering an environment where children feel secure, appreciated, and comfortable. The Bus Monitor/Floater is instrumental in facilitating the smooth operation of daily activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • BUS MONITOR:
    The Bus Monitor is tasked with assisting children in finding their seats and securing the necessary 3-point harnesses promptly. Continuous supervision of children is required while on the bus, addressing any behavioral issues with minimal disruption to the driver. Engaging children through reading, singing, or other creative activities during the journey is encouraged. The Bus Monitor is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness on the bus by collecting loose items and performing light cleaning as needed. Additionally, assisting the driver with pre- and post-trip inspections of lights and signals is part of the role. Participation in scheduled emergency evacuation drills is also required.
  • EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT:
    The Bus Monitor/Floater collaborates with management to ensure a well-organized daily schedule across classrooms, contributing to the effective operation of the full-day program. Working closely with teaching teams, the Floater provides necessary support and feedback to enhance classroom experiences. Supervision of children's play and assistance in individual, small, and large group activities, as well as self-help and toileting tasks, are key components of this role.
  • CHILDCARE:
    The Bus Monitor/Floater will also provide childcare during program events and parent activities, ensuring that parents can fully engage in the program while adhering to Head Start regulations. Commitment to serving as a childcare provider for at least two shifts annually is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • As per OHS requirements, must possess a valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education (AA), or be enrolled in a CDA or AA program within two years of employment commencement.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement or willingness to obtain one.
