Position: Senior Accounting Specialist
Reports to: Finance Director
The Senior Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering accounting and analytical assistance to the Finance Director. Responsibilities include preparing general journal entries, developing schedules, and providing insights to support month-end closings, quarterly assessments, and annual audits. This role may also involve undertaking additional tasks and special projects as assigned by management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer weekly payroll processing utilizing ADP.
- Monitor and apply Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Sick Leave (PSL) in accordance with company policies and legal standards.
- Calculate and process final paychecks and associated documentation as required.
- Log invoices and other financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Conduct Balance Sheet account reconciliations, including prepaids and accruals.
- Maintain and update accounting journals, ledgers, and other financial records (e.g., disbursements, expenses, receipts, accounts payable).
- Reconcile various bank accounts.
- Prepare general journal entries and provide accounting and analytical support during the month-end closing process.
- Reconcile accounts payable against vendor statements on a monthly basis.
- Facilitate check runs.
- Compile schedules and analyses to support timely financial reporting and annual audits.
- Assist in the month-end closing process for each accounting cycle.
- Generate Financial Statements using accounting software.
- Create and maintain rental/lease occupancy schedules.
- Ensure financial records are upheld in accordance with accounting principles as well as company policies and procedures.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Support the Finance Director and Operations in all legal matters, including leases, agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Assist management with special projects as necessary.
- Implement policies and procedures for internal controls.
- Prepare and file sales tax returns, 8027s, 571Ls, and 1099s.
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience with accrual accounting.
- Willingness and capability to learn and work with new systems, particularly those related to the restaurant industry, such as Restaurant 365.
- Strong analytical skills and effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to work additional hours during month-end close and as needed.
- Capability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing business demands and project requests.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 (based on experience)
