Position Summary:
The City of Tumwater is in search of enthusiastic and skilled individuals to join our dynamic Engineering and Construction Section. We are currently looking for a candidate to fill the role of Senior Engineering Project Coordinator. This position requires a proactive and self-driven professional with strong management capabilities to oversee engineering projects from initial planning through to execution.

The Senior Engineering Project Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Engineering Services Manager, managing the development, funding, permitting, design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction of designated City capital projects. The role is essential for the successful management of transportation and utility projects, aligning with the needs of the City and leveraging the strengths and interests of the selected candidate. Projects may be executed by City staff or contracted engineering firms, and the position will collaborate with various City Departments to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Act as the project manager for the design and execution of assigned engineering initiatives.
  2. Oversee the creation and assembly of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for utility and street construction projects, ensuring quality and compliance.
  3. Manage design consultants for assigned projects, including preparing consulting agreements and assisting in the selection process.
  4. Coordinate the preparation of contract estimates and maintain final project records.
  5. Participate in the management of land acquisition for right-of-way and construction easements as needed.
  6. Ensure project administration adheres to local, state, and federal guidelines.
  7. Handle financial reporting and payment requirements for projects.
  8. Support specialized development review activities as necessary.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Proficient in modern methods and techniques for public works project design, construction, and inspection.
2. Familiarity with land and engineering survey systems and techniques.
3. Understanding of regulations governing public works projects.
4. Knowledge of design and safety guidelines and standards.
5. Basic understanding of personnel management principles.
6. Ability to plan and evaluate specialized public works engineering areas.
7. Capability to manage professional and technical personnel effectively.
8. Strong communication skills for interaction with the public and government officials.
9. Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.

Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
2. Five years of relevant experience in engineering or architecture.

Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer-in-Training Certificate and Professional Engineer licensure are advantageous.

Working Conditions:
This position involves both office and fieldwork, requiring regular attendance and the ability to work in various weather conditions. Fieldwork may include driving to multiple sites and engaging in physical activities such as climbing ladders and lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
