Job Summary

The Airport Operations Center (AOC) Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the AOC, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of passengers and staff. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to analyze traffic data and make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise AOC Operators and ensure they are following standard operating procedures
  • Coordinate with other agencies, such as the Port Authority Police Department and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, to ensure seamless traffic flow
  • Analyze traffic data and make recommendations for improving traffic flow and reducing congestion
  • Develop and implement mitigation measures to optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including passengers, staff, and other agencies, to ensure that traffic information is disseminated effectively
  • Participate in construction progress meetings to coordinate traffic operations and identify potential conflicts
  • Continuously evaluate the impact of construction activities on traffic operations and adjust procedures as needed
  • Ensure that all AOC procedures are followed and that quality control measures are in place
  • Provide input on updates to standard operating procedures
  • Enter real-time closure information and hazard information into Waze
  • Monitor the AOC email inbox and respond to email messages as necessary
  • Oversee and train AOC Operators
  • Ensure quality control of work done by AOC Operators
  • Perform all functions of the AOC Operator as needed for coverage

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as traffic operations or transportation engineering
  • Three years of experience in traffic operations or a related field
  • Background in traffic operations and knowledge of traffic management
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with stakeholders
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with traffic analytic platforms, such as Synchro or TACTICS
  • Familiarity with regional transportation network
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to remain composed during stressful situations
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills
