Behavioral Health Specialist

SSM Health is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with behavioral health needs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in performing a variety of activities for behavioral health patients under supervision and in collaboration with other mental health care professionals.
- Organize and initiate the daily schedule with assigning staff tasks on unit(s).
- Ensure patient safety and compliance with established policies.
- Act as an advisor for strategic therapeutic interventions or acts as an advisor of the therapeutic intervention to reduce therapeutic holds on the unit.
- Attend treatment team meetings and work with nurses and therapists.
- Report improved/problem behaviors of patients on unit.
- Provide intervention for all high acuity issues, patient crises, or therapeutic holds that arise on the shift.
- Provide post-debriefing of patient crises and therapeutic holds.
- Orient new patients and significant others to the program and prepare patients for discharge and accompany them upon dismissal as indicated.
- Participate in the orientation of new employees on unit activities and procedures.
- Facilitate group social skills functions of the milieu.
- Facilitate task functions of the milieu such as resident community meetings and/or patient psycho-educational functions.
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or a related field, or equivalent years of experience and education.
- Two years' experience.
- Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication and hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Constant use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
- Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, twisting, and walking.
- Frequent use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, reaching, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing over 50 lbs.
- Occasional keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling, running, and lifting/moving patients.
