SSM Health is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team at St. Mary's Hospital - Centralia. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care by performing routine and complex technical laboratory analyses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a range of laboratory tests, from simple blood tests to complex analyses, to obtain accurate data for patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Assess specimens for proper handling and quality, ensuring accurate test results.
  • Verify test results and report findings to physicians, providing critical information for patient care.
  • Operate complex electronic equipment, computers, and precision instruments, maintaining a high level of technical proficiency.
  • Perform quality control procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Assist with instrument maintenance and calibration, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Store hazardous materials properly, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills through ongoing education and training, staying up-to-date with new developments in the field.
  • Participate in the laboratory's proficiency testing program, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience and education.
  • No prior experience required, but a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and procedures is essential.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, as well as identifying and distinguishing colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication, including hearing alarms and malfunctioning machinery.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.

  • Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Association for Bioanalysts (AAB)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) (International Included) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
